  • Scheduled Maintenance Period Notification

September 2, 2017 by Simon Dunn
  • Date: September 4, 2017 from 4 P.M - 5:00 P.M.

    Outage Expected: 10-15 minutes.

    Reason: Software Changes

    Further Information:
As continuation of our security hardening practices, we will be officially ending the ability to use plaintext authentication for email services.

This change should impact less then 1% of our customer base still utilising these legacy features. It is recommended to review the following changes to ensure your services will not be impacted.

A detailed breakdown of the changes is as follows:

    Incoming e-mail
    - Plaintext authentication for POP3 and IMAP will be disabled.
    - Connections to the servers on ports 110 and 143 will not be allowed.

    Outgoing e-mail
    - E-mail clients will be required to connect with SSL or issue the STARTTLS command before being allowed to authenticate.

As a result, please review your mail program for the following settings, adjusting as required:

    Incoming Server: rs9.websitehostserver.net
    POP3 Port: 995

    Outgoing Server: rs9.websitehostserver.net
    SMTP Port: 465

NOTE: Authentication is required for IMAP, POP3, and SMTP.

We would recommend changing your settings before September 4th to ensure no downtime for your email accounts.
